Title SIT MRT WKS IRT Category Actors Comments Year
Love Actually Y 5.0 5 7.8 romantic drama Hugh Grant, Liam Neison, Emma Thompson, Kria Knightly, star studded… Multiple romantic relationships are interwoven as sub-plots.  This film has a 'Notting Hill" meets 'Grand Canyon' feel to it.  Sappy and contrived, even cliché in parts but hugely entertaining throughout.  I love the way the subplot with the porn actors takes a unique (and surprisingly innocent) view of the irony that intimacy can be entirely independent of sex.  There is poor closure on some of the sub-plots.  Over-all an excellent film. 2003
Minority Report Y 5.0 6 7.0 thriller/sci-fi/action Tom Cruise Great plot, Great acting, Incredible setting, effects are amazing but not distracting. Engages your mind as well as your eye.  In the future, criminals are caught before the crimes they commit.  Parts are uneccessarily dark. 2002
Life as a House  Y 5.0 >5 7.4 drama Kevin Kline, Krisitin Scott Thomas Excellent drama about a family coping with lots of real-life problems. 2001
Perfect Storm, The Y 5.0   7.7 drama/adventure George Clooney, Mark Wahlberg, Dian lane The true story of the Andrea Gail.  Excellent film that is suprisingly accurate in its recreation of events and characters. 2000
Seabiscuit Y 5.0 8 7.5 drama Tobey Maguire Wonderful movie.  Original blend of documentary and drama.  Very uplifting.  Beautifully done. 2003
Remember The Titans Y 5.0   7.4 drama Denzel Washington Great movie about integrated high school football in the 1960's 2000
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (1) Y 5.0 12 8.9 fantasy, adventure Viggo Mortenson, Liv Tyler Best Film in years.  I can't wait for the rest of the trilogy to be released. 2001
Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (3) Y 5.0 13 8.8 fantasy, adventure Viggo Mortenson Most elaborate special effects of any movie in history.  #3 is much better than #2.  #1 is still my favorite. The effort put into the visuals of this film are unparalleled in film history.  It is clearly a significant milestone.  I think Gollum will be remembered as the first realistic and convincing organic main character that was entirely computer animated.  The down-side of this trilogy for some is that it is an over-the-top fantasy complete with dragons, elves, and trolls.  People will either love it or hate it. 2004
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl Y 5.0 11   adventure Johnny Depp If you liked Treasure Island as a kid you'll love this one.  Also check out Cutthroat Island. 2003
Incredibles, The Y 5.0 7 8.2 comedy, action, animated   This Pixar animated film has primarily adult themes.  Kids will like the action but I would not recommend it for any child <8.  The action and dialog are both very intense in parts. The film seems to be targeted more at middle aged parents with main themes that only they could identify with.  The animation is, of course, mind blowing, but the characters are far richer than any previous Pixar production.  Mostly this film is just really cool.  It's a blend of James Bond, Superman, and the Brady Bunch. But far better than any of those.   2004
Insomnia Y 4.5 3   drama/thriller Al Pachino, Robin Williams A uniquely crafted murder thriller with rich "gray" characters. 2002
Cider House Rules, The Y 4.5     drama Tobey Maguire, Charlize Theron, Michael Caine Excellent film with rich characters and moral substance. 2000
Life of David Gale Y 4.5 3   drama/thriller Kevin Spacey Starts slow like Dead Man Walking but stick with it for some great plot twists. 2003
Men of Honor Y 4.5     drama Robert Denero, Cubba Gooding Jr. Excellent movie based on the life of the first black diver in the US Navy. A highly motivational story. 2000
Last Samurai, The Y 4.5 7 7.8 action Tom Cruise   2004
Open Range Y 4.5 5   western drama Kevin Costner One of the best authentic westerns I've seen in years. 2003
Spy Game Y 4.5 >5   adventure, thriller Robert Redford, Brad Pitt A CIA field agent risks his life when he takes matters into his own hands. 2001
Black Hawk Down Y 4.5 8   war Josh Harnett, Eric Bana, Ewan McGregor What makes this film great is also why you might avoid it. It's very realistic, fast-paced, and absorbing (like Saving Private Ryan).  It takes you there.  I was shell shocked for a few days after seeing it. 2002
Ring, The Y 4.5 8   horror Naomi Watts Filmend in the Puget Sound area. Starts off typical but gets much better if you stay with it.  It takes an absurd premise and turns it into an absorbing and very creepy mystery.  2002
Beautiful Mind, A  Y 4.5 16   drama Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connely It stressed me out but was a very good and interesting film.  Great acting. 2001
Spider-Man 2 Y 4.5 7   action, drama Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Alfred Molina. Better than any super-hero movie except the first Superman movie.  Far better than Spiderman 1 . 2004
Sum of All Fears, The Y 4.5 6   drama, thriller Ben Affleck, Morgan Freeman A good movie about terrorism. But hits a litte too close to home. 2002
Troy Y 4.5 6   epic adventure Brad Pitt, Peter Otoole,  Unlike most critics, I liked this one very much.  It felt like kind of a cross between BraveHeart and Gladiator (but much better than Gladiator).  I was glad that I had forgotten much of the story, including the outcome of the battle between Hector and Achilles, because I was literally on the edge of my seat with anticipation during this masterfully choreographed fight.  Great acting.  Great casting. Very good attention to time-period detail.  I would have liked to see more character development but when you've got an entire war to cover there's only so much time.  It was worthy of Peter O'Tooles.  It may have been better is it were longer and included richer character development.  (Not appropriate for <14). 2004
Bourne Identity, The Y 4.5 5   action/thriller Matt Damon I liked this better than any James Bond film - probably because its not a James Bond film. 2002
Harry Potter and the Prizoner of Azkaban (3) Y 4.5 5   fantasy   Not as good as the book but far, far, far more entertaining than the previous two movies.  Maybe it's a good thing that this movie deviated considerably from the book.  It kept me from being sure of what would happen next.  New director Alfanso Cuaron, is a relative unknown from Mexico.  He gave the film a grittier look and a darker feel.  He also used perspective, pans, and zooms to add just a hint of documentary-style realism to the film.  Gary Oldman was an excellent choice for Sirius Black (my favorite character). He gave the role what it deserved.  I also liked the gent cast as Professor Lupine. I really miss Richard Harris as Headmaster Dumbledor.  There are wonderfully detailed sets were, and of course there's plenty of cutting-edge CGI.  The cast is growing up fast - The Weasly twins look like they are in their mid 20's.  Note that each film is successively more scary and mature.  My kids won’t see this one before they are 9.  There is also an IMAX version. 2004
Keeping The Faith Y 4.5 5   comedy/drama Edward Norton,  An entertaining drama about the life-long relationship between a priest and a rabi. 2000
Two Weeks Notice Y 4.5 5   romantic comedy Sandra Bullock, Hough Grant The cream on the overflowing bowl of romantic comedies. 2003
Score, The Y 4.5     thriller Robert DeNiro, Edward Norton, Marlon Brando, Angela Bassett A great cat-burgler film.  Very believable story.  Fantastic acting. 2001
Second Hand Lions Y 4.5     drama/comedy Michale Caine,  I loved this sappy film.  Contrived but really heartwarming. 2003
Shanghai Noon Y 4.5     comedy/western/action Owen Wilson, Jackie Chan  A Chinese man travels to the Wild West to rescue a kidnapped princess.  Hillarious movie. (see Shanghai Knights) 2000
U-571 Y 4.5     war drama Matthew McConaughey, Bill Paxton, Harvey Keitel Terrific WWII submarine movie. 2000
Finding Nemo Y 4.5 11 8.2 animated comedy Ellen Degeneris Aminated Disney comedy 2003
Monsters Inc. Y 4.5 10 7.9 animated comedy Billy Crystal, John Goodman The best animated film to date.  Great creative story.  Very funny dialog. 2001
Shanghai Knights (2) Y 4.0 >5   comedy/action Owen Willson, Jackie Chan I loved Shanghai Noon - a great blend of action and comedy.  This sequil is just as good. 2003
Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines Y 4.0 6   Sci Fi Action Arnold Swartzenegar This one covers John Connor's early adulthood.  I liked it far better than the Matrix sequils that released at the same time. 2003
Austin Powers: Goldmember Y 4.0 8   comedy Mike Meyers Hillarious.  More juvenile and funnier than the previous two. 2002
We Were Soldiers Y 4.0 5   war Mel Gibson Almost as good as Saving Private Ryan, the characters in this Vietnam War movie are as convincing as the battle scenes.   It's an intimate look at the people involved in one specifc battle in Vietnam.  The non-fiction film covers the war at home as well as the war in Vietnam. 2002
Count of Monte Cristo (remake) Y 4.0 3   drama/adventure Jim Caviezel, Guy Pearce, Richard Harris I love the original but this remake was dome quite well and is different enough from the first to be interesting.  The sets and costumes are better than the acting. 2002
American Beauty Y 4.0     drama Kevin Spacey, Anette Benning' A man tells his tale of how he turned his miserable life around and turned everyone else's upside down as a result. 2000
Beach, The Y 4.0     adventure/drama Leonardo Di Capprio X-generation travelers in Thailand "discover" an isolated Island. I really enjoyed the look and "feel" of this movie and lived vicariously thru it.  Gorgeous camera work. The plot meanders and gets a little bizarre at times but I always felt a connection with what the film was about.  Good characters, each significant in a different way.  Unfortunately, I think the point of this movie is something people get before it starts or they don't get at all. Reminded me a little of  "The Big Blue" 2000
Patriot, The Y 4.0     drama/action/war Mel Gibson Revolutionary war.  Not as historically inaccurate as I've heard.  What they showed wasn't wrong its just that they left huge parts of the historical story out (they glazed over and sugar-coated the slavery issues, the inter-faction fighting, and the long appeals to France for aid).  The nature of the fighting was accurate.  I liked that they showed the main character making his own bullets (there was no arms manufacturer in the US during the war).  It's just fiction - so you have to let go of the unlikely odds and the mellow drama.  But I couldn't swallow the protagonist.  I would have liked the film much better if the plot wasn't based on a personal vendetta with a single evil character.  I was super disappointed that only a few seconds were dedicated to the spectacular sea battle at Yorktown.  The film focuses only on the southern campaign by Cornwallace.  I guess they did an ok job of getting the audience up to speed on the events in the Northern theatre but they don't convey how Washington has suffered loss after loss after loss for the past three years.  Bottom line: It's a formula block-buster that lightly represents the past but should not be considered a history lesson by any means.  As pure entertainment, I liked it.  Interesting to watch movies now with the eyes of a new parent (the little girl made me cry). 2000
What Lies Beneath Y 4.0     Thriller Michelle Phiffer Excellent suspense thriller.  But the first half is kinda pointless. 2000
Memento Y 3.5   8.6 drama Guy Pearce This very interesting and unique film is presented in reverse, scend by scene.  It's crass and violent.  Ending is a big downer. 2001
Gladiator Y 3.5   8.2 drama/adventure Russle Crowe Mixed feelings: You gotta love Russell Crowe.  I hated the battle scenes because Ridley Scott uses a camera technique called "shuttering" where you use super high-speed film to get a very crisp picture on every frame of an action scene (no blurring). This results in unnatural looking jerky motion.  This technique, along with way too much editing, ruined the otherwise cool battle scenes.  The story line was painfully predictable and one dimensional (though I hear it’s historically pretty accurate).  Great casting and the acting was actually pretty good.  The scenes of ancient Rome were amazing. Ridley Scott got too artsy at times.  In some cases it was neat (like at the end and during the long horse ride) but other times it was just annoying (like the cloud segues).  Parts exceeded my ability to suspend disbelief. My main turn off is the injustice and inhumanity of the rule of Commodus.  As historically accurate as it may be, it’s too frustrating and sickening 2000
Almost Famous Y 3.5 >5 8.0 drama/comedy   Fiction about a 1970's rock band.  Rich characters.  Funny. Poignant,  Nostalgic for those who are into 70's rock. 2000
Collateral  Y 3.5 7 7.8 action, thriller Tom Cruise, Jamie Foxx, Jada Pinkett Smith A one dimensional violent action film that glorifies hit men to a point. BUT I was riveted to this film, anxious to see what would happen next.  The acting was convincing.  The story had realizm.  The sound track was good.  The scenarios credible.  There's a serrious lag set to music in the middle of the film.  The film ends too soon.  There are unresolved issues that cold have been addressed. 2004
O Brother Where Art Thou Y 3.5   7.8 comedy/drama George Clooney A modern telling of the Odessy set in the rural south.  Zany characters.  Great dialog and music. 2001
My Big Fat Greek Wedding Y 3.5 32   romantic comedy John Corbet non-greek dates and marries a woman who's family is very Greek. Very Fun comedy.  Nothing fancy just good family fun. The movie equvilent of comfort food. 2002
Changing Lanes Y 3.5 7   drama Ben Affleck, Samuel Jackson The story of what happens one day in New York when a young lawyer and a businessman share a small automobile accident on F.D.R. Drive and their mutual road rage escalates into a feud... 2002
50 First Dates Y 3.5 6   romantic comdey Adam Sandler Not as funny as Happy Gillmore but one of Sandlers best movies. A bit more mature than the others. 2004
I, Robot  Y 3.5 5   action, sci-fi Will Smith   2004
Manchurian Candidate, The  Y 3.5 4   Thriller Denzel Washington, Meryl Streep, Liev Schreiber, Jon Voight Pretty intense remake of the original. 2004
Saved! Y 3.5 3   comedy   Very funny comedy about a Christian high school. I think anyone can relate to this film because you know people like the characters. It starts off kind of "B" but improves a lot along the way. I thought the ending was intelligent and positive. 2004
Bicentenial Man Y 3.5     scifi/drama Robin Williams Kind of "Disnyish" but has a real honesty to it.  An Android in the pursuit of humanity. 2000
Contender, The Y 3.5     drama   A woman is nominated for the presidency.  A great surprise ending. 2000
Elf Y 3.5     comedy     2003
Mummy Returns, The Y 3.5     action, horror Brenden Fraser, Rachel Weisz, Arnold Vosloo, John Hannah Better than it's predecessor.  It's not a horror film.  It's an Indianna-Jones-like adventure with an Egyptian twist. 2001
Rules of Engagement Y 3.5     drama/war Tommy Lee Jones, Samuel Jackson True Story about a U.S Marine Camander who was "hung out to dry". 2000
Rush Hour II Y 3.5     action Jakie Chan, Chris Tucker Action/Comedy.  A very entertaining action movie.  I thought the first was mediocre.  This ones a huge improvement. 2001

Wild Thornberrys The Movie Y 3.5           2002

Ocean's 11 Y 3.0 7   drama, thriller     2001
Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2) Y 3.0 7   sci-fi   Far better than Episode I.  Minimal Jarjar, and no Ewocks.  The second half is very good. 2002
Road to Perdition Y 3.0 6   drama/action Tom Hanks Great absorbing 1931 gangster film that starts depressing and ends even worse. 2002
Jimmy Neutron: Boy Genius  Y 3.0 5   animated comedy   Animated 2001
Kate & Leopold Y 3.0 5   romantic comedy Meg Ryan, Hugh Jackman This out-of-time love story got panned by critics but Kathy and I liked it. 2001
Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow  Y 3.0 5   retro sci-fi Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law, Giovanni Ribisi, Ling Bai, Angelina Jolie A clever and impressive concept film.  The entire film was shot in a blue room.  Computer animation was added later.  What is impressive about this film is the creativity of the concept: a highly stylized film in the tradition of 1940's science fiction and film noir.  It is reminiscent of Metropolis, Buck Rodgers, or Flash Gordon.  I was also reminded of: The Day The Earth Stood Still, Indiana Jones, Sam Spade, The Iron Giant, King Kong, and The Island of Dr. Moreau.  You’ll think you just saw the mother of modern action films but then you remember that it's not an old movie.  Although it draws from so many films from the last century it has a very consistent tone, look, and feel.  The entire film has a certain coloration to it and a super-soft camera filter is used.  Though not true to any actual time period, the film captures the paranoia and confident optimism that followed WWII and prefaced the cold war.  I wonder if people who lived in the 40's will find this film reminiscent of their childhood or just silly. The plot is very simple and quite fantastic (incredible).  There's a post-war Nazi scientist who wants to destroy the world to create a new one.  There's an all-American ace who fly’s a P-40 mustang and runs some kind of pseudo military base.  His army scientist side-kick invents neat gadgets to help him fight evil. And, of course, there's a smoldering spark between the pilot and a street-smart New York News photographer (Gwyneth Paltrow) who is bent on getting the scoop on who's behind a rash of mechanized hit-and-run attacks across the globe.  But the plot is almost irrelevant - this movies strength is the treatment of its subject, not the subject itself. The sexual tension played out well in the don't-touch love/hate relationship that takes almost the entire film to climax in a simple sanitary kiss, just like in those good old films of yesteryear.  2004
Gosford Park Y 3.0 4   D   Murder Mystery is hard to follow because of fast-talking brittish banter but offers many rich characters. 2001
Hidalgo Y 3.0 4   Adventure Viggo Mortensen I wanted to like this movie more but it couldn't decide if it was a historical adventure or silly action film. 2004
Terminal, The Y 3.0 4     Tom Hanks, Catherine Zeta Jones Great acting. The story was very entertaining but tried to be everything to everyone.  Some parts were too silly and contrived.  Not one of Speilbergs best.                              2004
King Arthur Y 3.0 3       A very unique interpretation of the Arthurian legend.  Not terribly credible but rather entertaining.  Better than I expected. 2004
Laws of Attraction Y 3.0 3     Pierce Brosnan, Julianne Moore  The acting was pretty good.  I really liked his character quite a bit but her character was so annoying that his attraction to her was not at all believeable.  A pretty enjoyable chick-movie. 2004
Mothman Prophecies Y 3.0 3   horror Richard Gere I loved this super-creepy movie based on actual events! 2002
Treasure Planet Y 3.0 3   animated comedy   I thought my devotion to the original Treasure Island would prevent me from liking this high-tech version.  I like them both for diferent reasons. 2002
Atlantis: The Lost Empire  Y 3.0     animated comedy   Animated Disney feature. But inappropriate for kids under 10, IMO. 2001

Galaxy Quest Y 3.0     comedy/Sci Fi Sigourney Weaver Spoof on Start Trek.  I laughed enough to give it a 3. 2000
Green Mile, The Y 3.0     drama Tom Hanks Great movie based on a weird premise.  Kind of a downer. 2000
Heist, The Y 3.0     TA Gene Hackman, Danny DeVito Aging con-man is trying to escape his life.  Interesting characters.  Story rambles a bit.  Characters are cruel to eachother. 2001
Huricane, The Y 3.0     Denzel Washington non-fiction, drama Great movie.  I almost turned it off after the first hour because it was just too depressing and unoriginal.  But the film slowly turns into something completely different and more intriguing than just a terrible story of injustice.  Since its a true story I don't want to say too much about it but it is amazing in many different ways.  It's only one tape but was very long. 2000
Jurassic Park III  Y 3.0     horror/Sci fi   In my opinion, the best of the series.  This one is more scary. 2001
K-PAX  Y 3.0     DS Kevin Spacey The story is better and has more texture than I thought. 2001

Replacements, The Y 3.0     action/comedy Keanu Reves Fun movie.  Scabs play ball during an NFL stirke.  Totally stupid, silly, predictable movie that made me laugh.  The part in jail was too much but just ignore it.  The football stunts were amazing.  Ya gotta love those cheerleaders. 2000
Sinbad (Disney Animated) Y 3.0     animated comedy   Almost as good as Treasure Planet 2003
Someone Like You Y 3.0     romantic comedy Ashley Judd, Hugh Jackman Great casting and insightful writing make this romatic comedy worth watching. 2001
Thirteen Days Y 3.0     drama   The Cuban missile crisis of 196x 2001
Unbreakable Y 3.0     drama Bruce Willis Super hero story done as a moody drama not an action film. Great original idea. A man realizes that he seems to be impervious to injury and slowly assumes the social resposibility. 2000
Bowling for Columbine Y 2.5   8.2
28 Days Later Y 2.5   7.5       2003
Ocean's Twelve Y 2.5 CR   drama, thriller George Kluney, Brad Pitt, … The Sequel to the remake of Ocean's Eleven.  This is worth seeing but 11 was better.  The camerawork was tedious at times.  I think they over-used fancy camera work to enhance the drama. The new addition to the cast, CZJ, was stunning (of course) and convincing.  I could not even begin to empathize with the characters.  They are all filthy rich self-absorbed criminals and I'm supposed to care about them? In the first movie maybe, but not this time.  The plot was very flimsy. They tried to make it seem substantial by telling the story out of order but afterwards you realize there wasn't much there.  The burglers spend so much on equiptment they'd only break even (not credible). The scene with the moving lasers is very entertaining and impressive but not believable.  The whole holograph thing was a stretch - using sci-fi in this kind of film is cheep way out.  Instead of using a hologram they should have stolen the decoy from the Frenchman. 2004
Bruce Almighty Y 2.5 >5   comedy Jim Carey, Jennifer Aniston Very funny in parts.  A pretty typical Jim Carey movie. 2003
Identity Y 2.5 >5   horror John Cousack Good scary movie.  "Surprise" end is not as unexpected as they think it is. 2003

Solaris Y 2.5 <3   Sci Fi Drama   Very interesting.  Not very entertaining. Slow moving.  No ending. 2002
Shrek 2 Y 2.5 10   animated   Witty. Better than #1. but most jokes are not very kid appropriate. 2004
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (1) Y 2.5 9   F   An ok movie - but a let-down after reading the books. 2001
Cold Mountain Y 2.5 8   Romantic Tragedy/Adventure Niccole Kiddman A very high quality film worthy of praise but too depressing and slow for me to enoy it. 2004
Spider Man Y 2.5 8   action   A fun superhero film.  Not as good as Superman, but better than the Batman films. 2002
Man on Fire Y 2.5 7   drama, action Denzel Washington This film had predictability going against it.  It begins by stating that there is a kidnapping in Mexico every hour.  So you know the girl will get kidnapped.  The rest is just the details you are waiting to see.  There are some serious credibility problems with the details of the vengeance phase of the film.  But there are a handful of reasons I liked this film.  I liked the vulnerability and humanity of the hero.  I got suckered into the development of the relationship between the girl and her bodyguard.  I liked the style and tone of the film as well as the music. And Denzel brings a compelling coolness to the film.  At times this film made me think of Revenge and The Professional (both excellent movies).  Basically, this is a pretty good movie because it's about an imperfect person fighting corruption for the sake of the innocent.  It's an unremarkable blue-collar action film but it has moral merit and artistic qualities. 2004
Panic Room y 2.5 7     Jodie Foster Plot Outline: Three men search for a missing fortune in a big mansion while a woman hides in one of its rooms. 2002
Stuart Little 2 Y 2.5 4   animated comedy   Kids. Cute, I liked this one as much as the original.  A good family movie. 2002
Dragonfly Y 2.5 3   TH Kevin Costner A grieving doctor is being contacted by his late wife through his patients near death experiences.  This is a pretty good thriller in the vein of Sixth Sense. 2002
K-19: The Widowmaker Y 2.5 3   war drama Harrison Ford. Russian submarine during cold-war era. Very depressing, 2002
Sweetest Thing, The Y 2.5 3   comedy   Hillarious movie, probably targeted more at younger women, but very funny. 2002
Time Machine, The Y 2.5 3   sci-fi/adventure   The acting was mediocre but I liked this remake because it didn't mirror the original (which I love by the way), it was quite diferent. 2002
6th Day, The Y 2.5     sci fi/action Arnold Sw. Pretty decent sci-fi action thriller.  Requires suspense of disbelief. 2000
Behind Enemy Lines  Y 2.5     war Owen Wilson, Gene Hackman Entertaining but not at all believable. 2001

Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigalo Y 2.5     comedy   Hillarious! Just offensive enough to be really funny. A guy-movie. 2000
Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within  Y 2.5     SF   Incredilbe animation makes up for a shakey plot.  Earth is attacked by mysterious aliens. 2001
From Hell Y 2.5     Horror Johnny Depp, Heather Graham A very gory but also very interesting remake of Jack the Ripper with a unique twist and intelligent ending. 2001
Jungle Book 2 (2) Y 2.5     animated   As good as the original. 2003
Matrix Revolutions (3) Y 2.5     Sci Fi Action   This mindless action sci-fi movie will be a classic. Amazing effects but the story is nonsense. 2003
Pitch Black Y 2.5     horror/sci-fi   A great sci-fi horror film. 2000
Serendipity Y 2.5     romatic comedy John Cusack, Kate Bekinsale Not a bad romantic comedy. 2001
Shreck Y 2.5     comdey Mike Meyers, Eddie Murphy Funny animated 2001
Wedding Planner, The Y 2.5     romatic comedy Jennifer Lopez, Matthew McConaughey, Bridgette Wilson A light, romanitc comedy, entertaining mostly because of McConaughey. 2001
Signs Y 2.5 9   drama/horror Mel Gibson, Ex-priest rediscovers his faith when aliens attack earth. 2002
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind Y 2.0 <3 8.5 drama Jim Carey Very interesting story about erasing memories. A little too dark and dramatic to be entertaining. It proposes an interesting theory that attraction is inevitable regardless of experience 2004
Shaun of the Dead  Y 2.0 3 8.0 comedy/horror spoof     2004
Traffic Y 2.0   7.8 drama   A great docu-drama.  More educational than entertaining.  Depressing. 2001
National Treasure Y 2.0 CR   action thriller     2004
School of Rock Y 2.0 >5   comdey Jack Black, Joan Cusack Amusing if you like Jack Black.  Annoying if you don't. 2003
Under the Tuscan Sun Y 2.0 >5   Romantic drama Diane Lane This film is just too chicky for me.  Most of what makes this film interesting is that it takes place in Italy.  If the whole thing took place in the states it would be an uninteresting and depressing story.  There is a heartwarming irony to the ending but I'm not sure it was worth it.  I have the impression that this was a good book that did not translate into film very well. 2003
One Hour Photo Y 2.0 7     Robin WIlliams Great acting, consuming plot, original story. Photo man becomes stalker. 2002
Something's Gotta Give Y 2.0 7     Jack Nicholson, Diane Keaton Seemed like every other movie Jack's made in the last ten years.  Too long and too sappy for me. 2004
Cheaper by the Dozen Y 2.0 6   family comedy Steve Martin Decent family movie 2004
Royal Tenenbaums, The Y 2.0 6   drama/comedy   If you are prepared for weird, like Raising Arizona, this can be amusing 2001
About a Boy Y 2.0 4   romatic comedy Hugh Grant Amusing story of an immature self centered man.  Amusing but not funny. 2002
Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgandy  Y 2.0 4   comedy     2004
Village, The  Y 2.0 4   Thriller Joaquin Phoenix, William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver   2004
Secret Window Y 2.0 3     Johnny Depp I'm a huge Johnny Depp fan but this one didn’t pull off the surprise ending like it needed to.  It starts off slow.  Gets pretty darn good in the middle, and then fizzles in the end. I would describe the film as an attempt to put a Fight Club ending on Deliverance. 2004
Windtalkers Y 2.0 3   war Nicholas Cage Too much killing, not enough plot. 2002
Amile' Y 2.0     comdey   French with subtitles.  Starts off suspiciously cute and french but gets your interest later.
Animal, The  Y 2.0     comdey Rob Schneider A completely stupid movie that had me laughing out loud many times. 2001
Anna and the King Y 2.0     drama Jodie Foster Eye Candy 2000
Any Given Sunday Y 2.0     drama Pachino Self-glorifying 2000
Chicken Run Y 2.0     aminated comedy animated Cute 2000

Final Destination 2 (2) Y 2.0     horror     2003
High Fidelity Y 2.0           2000
How the Grinch Stole Christmas Y 2.0     comdey   Cute.  Too over-the-top for me. 2000
Jeepers Creepers II Y 2.0     horror   Scarrier than the first I thought.  They go together well.  2003
Legally Blonde  Y 2.0     romatic comedy Reese Witherspoon Amusing 2001
Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World Y 2.0     adventure Russel Crowe Great movie but so realisitc that its quite a downer. 2003
Me, Myself, & Irene Y 2.0     comdey   Crude and in poor taste - but hillarious in parts. 2000
Mission to Mars Y 2.0     sci fi   A better version of 2001 a Space Oddisy 2000
Pearl Harbor Y 2.0     war Ben Affleck, Liv Tyler This movie is actually two moves spliced together, a sappy borring love story and a war movie.  The war movie is good.  The Love story is painful. 2001
Planet of the Apes (remake) Y 2.0     sci fi Mark Wahlberg, Tim Roth Better than the original. 2001
Queen of the Damned Y 2.0     horror   from an Anne Rice book. Not as good as Interview With a Vampire.  More intelligent than Blade.  Worth a look. 2002
Road to Eldorado, The Y 2.0     animated   Aminated Disney movie.  Pretty good. 2000
Romeo Must Die Y 2.0     action Jet Lee Standard martial arts plot: Two rival gangs and a new guy from China to revenge brother’s death.  Jet Lee is very talented.  This film could have foregone the special effects crap and would have been great.  I am sick of the freeze and circle effect made popular by The Matrix.  Too much of that combined with too many high-wire scenes, and those ridiculous x-ray segments, turned me off to this one.  It's just too cheesy. I must compliment the director, however, on some great camera work, creative angels, vivid colors and contrast, a great eye. 2000
Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron Y 2.0     animated   Wonderful Animation but there is cruelty in the story that seemed inappropriate for the target audience. 2002
Spy Kids Y 2.0       Antonio Banderas   2001
Stuart Little Y 2.0     aminated   Cute kids movie. 2000
Swordfish Y 2.0     action John Travolta, Haley Berry Action thriller. If you can make it through the onslaught of empty violence, sex, and deprevity, the second half of this movie has some merrit. 2001
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Y 2.0     horror Jessica Biel Jessica Biel is very cute. 2003
Undercover Brother Y 2.0     comedy   If you like austin Powers movies, then you'l like this one too. 2002
Whole Nine Yards, The Y 2.0     dark comedy Bruce Willis   2000
X-Men Y 2.0     action/super-hero   No better than any of the crappy Batman movies. 2000
Old School Y 2.0 5   comedy Will Ferrel Middle aged men try to recapture their college days. Very funny in places but stupid and slightly offensive over all. 2003
Lost In Translation Y 1.5 >5 7.9     Too slow moving and artsy-fartsy for me. It is an interesting study of culture shock experienced by Americans in contemporary Japan. Not terribly relevant unless you are going or have just been there. The age difference between Bill Murray and the girl (both married) made me uncomfortable. 2003
Meet the Fockers  Y 1.5 CR   comdey     2004
A Mighty Wind Y 1.5 >5   comedy   Same cast and style as Best In Show. 2003
Bringing Down The House Y 1.5 >5   comedy Steve Martin & Queen Latifah Mostly not funny but a couple very funny parts. 2003
Freaky Friday Y 1.5 >5   comedy     2003
Chronicles of Riddick, The Y 1.5 <3   sci-fi action   Visually entertaining, even stunning in places, but the plot and acting was drivel. 2004
De-Lovely Y 1.5 <3   drama, musical, romance Kevin Klein, Ashley Judd Cole Porter Story.  A beautifully told story.  Great acting, great sets and visuals.  Good music of course.  Interesting cameo appearances by contemporary singers performing Cole Porter songs.  But I really did not like the story.  [Spoiler:] At first you admire the open mindedness of Linda (Ashley Judd) to knowingly marry a bisexual (and possibly just gay) man and make his love for her grow by giving him complete freedom.  And you respect him for his honestly and zest for life.  But as the film progressed I was more and more disturbed by his cruel selfishness in contrast with her limitless unconditional love for him.  By the end of the film her dreams had passed her by and she is drained of spirit and life but her love still flows.  It was tragic.  My sadness for her overshadowed any appreciation I was intended to have for him or his music. 2004
Majestic, The Y 1.5 <3     Jim Carey   2001
Ice Age Y 1.5 9   animated   Animated.  The squirrel was very good.  Amusing but not one of the better ones in my opinion. 2002
Shark Tale  Y 1.5 6   animated children's     2004
Grudge, The  Y 1.5 5   horror   American remake of a Japanese horror movie.  It just didn’t do it for me.  There were a couple good scenes like the one in the office building.  But it just wasn't that good or unique.   2004
Mr. Deeds Y 1.5 5   comedy Adam Sandler xxx is a crack up.  This one's amusing but doesn’t touch the original. 2002
Orange County Y 1.5 4   comedy   Slightly depressing comedy about a dysfunctional family living in Orange County CA. 2002
Bedazzled Y 1.5           2000
Evolution Y 1.5       David Duchovny, Julianne Moore Quirky sci-fi movie.  Very similar to Men In Black. 2001
Jeepers Creepers  Y 1.5     horror   A great B Horror movie.  Better than Pumpkinhead, not as good as the Ring. 2001
Kiss of the Dragon  Y 1.5     action Jet Li, Bridgett Fonda Copious ammounts of fighting.  Super depressing. 2001
Red Planet Y 1.5       Val Kilmer An entertaining sci fi about mars exploration. 2000
Santa Clause 2, The Y 1.5     family comedy   Cute.  About the same as the first one. 2002
Serving Sara Y 1.5     comedy   Cute 2002
Spy Kids 2 Y 1.5           2002
Supernova Y 1.5     sci-fi, action, horror   Despite the great effects and sets, I never got into this movie.  The plot was tired.  It was as if someone had pieced together footage from Event Horizon, Lost in Space, Saturn 5, Sphere, and some Total Recall.  The premise presented regarding what causes super novas was really interesting, they could have gone a long way by developing a plot around that.  Instead they it was loosely wrapped in a plot where a psycho hitch-hiker in deep space tries to bring something nasty back to earth.  Also, why do filmmakers think when we master space travel, everything will be co-ed (like in Starship Troopers)? 2000
Vertical Limit Y 1.5     action   Worth a look, but pretty bad.  Much like Cliffhanger 2000
About Schmidt Y 1.0 >5   drama Jack Nicholson Blah. 2003
How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days Y 1.0 >5   comedy     2003

Hellboy Y 1.0 4   Fantasy     2004
Punch-Drunk Love Y 1.0 4     Adam Sandler, Emily Watson A beleaguered small-business owner embarks on a romantic journey with a mysterious woman who plays the harmonium. 2002
Alien Vs. Predator  Y 1.0 3   action, sci-fi   high budget, low-brow blood & gore flick. 2004
Paycheck Y 1.0 3   thriller, sci-fi Ben Affleck, Uma Thurman It could have been good but wasn’t . The story is pretty interesting. But the execution was blah. Uma Thurman was good. Everyone else stunk. 2004
Big Fat Liar Y 1.0           2002
Corky Romano Y 1.0     comedy Chris Kattan Silly SNL movie.  Not as funny as others. 2001

Mexican, The Y 1.0         Tedious 2001
Mission: Impossible II Y 1.0     action   So over-the-top and unrealistic that it beomes tedious. 2000
Rat Race Y 1.0     comedy John Cleese, Jon Lovitz, and many more… Slapstick comedy similar to Mad Mad Mad World. 2001

Gangs of New York Y 0.5     drama Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day Lewis, Cameron Diaz Terrible depraved story.  Great acting. I hated it and yet I appreciated it.  It has no redeaming social value yet it is quite an epic production. 2002
Halloween: Resurrection Y 0.5     horror   Not as good as the other Holloween movies. 2002
Knight's Tale, A  Y 0.5       Heath Ledger Silly and unrealistic in every way. 2001
Ninth Gate, The Y 0.5       Johnny Dep It seems like something interesting is devloping, but it never does.  This movie is a big let-down. A very interesting film about the occult with an absolutely silly, incomplete, and horrible ending. 2000
Princess Diaries, The Y 0.5           2001
